Strategic development and planning
The nature of education and the processes inherent in teaching and learning are changing substantially. This is well represented by the Ministry of Education’s move from traditional classrooms to innovative learning environments. This is an easily observable change, yet there are many others that are less easily noticed but equally as significant and substantial. The need to sustain an on-going futures perspective is essential. It is no longer an option!
The strategic development and planning programmes offered by LEADERSHIP INNOVATION NZ focus on the nature of the future, the ways in which the provision of education is likely to change, inevitable changes to notions of teaching and learning, re-imagining the nature of curriculum and many other changes. The services in this area include identifying community needs, conceptualising, leading and managing change processes, and supporting the leadership and teachers as the school.
The support in this area extends to assisting Boards of Trustees and Principals as they review and redevelop their school charters and visions.
As New Zealand education moves into a period of substantial organisational and conceptual change, there is a strong need for school principals and other leaders in schools to remain familiar with the literature, theory and practice of strategic development.
Leadership Innovation NZ offers an important service in this sphere based on the assumption that the future of education may well be substantially different to current practice. We assist schools to explore possible futures, to be innovative, to challenge current paradigms, to explore and to make changes likely to contribute to student learning and, significantly, to contribute to the preparation of young people for multiple futures – some of which do not yet exist.
The future is singularly difficult to define. Arguably, by definition, the future is unknowable – yet professional educators are charged with the duty of preparing young people for this ‘unknowable future’. We are able to assist in what is essentially a speculative process that underpins and informs the thinking about strategic planning and development.
The process also assists in developing school charters, re-envisioning and reimagining school activities, and moving from strategic intention to the reality of the school day.
