Senior leadership team mentoring and development

Introduction

Most schools in Western countries now work on the principle of shared leadership. This is both admirable and functional! If the process of sharing leadership is to be successful there needs to be appropriate development of individual leaders within the senior leadership team, a shared philosophy of leadership, agreed processes and protocols, and a functional leadership review process. This leadership review allows the senior leadership team (SLT) to consider the effectiveness of the decisions.

The mentoring and development programme for a SLT is tailored to meet the specific needs of a particular group and context. The programme is developed in consultation with the school Principal and can be modified according to other or different needs that may emerge during the programme.

The programme is usually offered in-school using a team/group approach. Individual needs identified during the programme are addressed on a one-to-one basis when necessary.

“The quality and depth of the professional dialogues we embarked on are unequalled in my 13-year career as a principal.”
